"A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions" Anonymous

Dear Families,

Welcome to the Discovery School Community. This is a place where children learn and grow. For the past nine years I have watched children become successful academically and socially. Our students become confident and successful through the use of Positive Discipline and by providing an environment where they are encouraged to take risks.

After graduation, our students have successfully continued their education at public and private schools. A recent graduate of Discovery School is continuing his schooling at Saint George's School where he is an excellent student. When asked about his academic success in a college prep atmosphere he said, "Discovery helped me discover myself". It was at Discovery School where he finally realized his potential and believed in himself as a learner. We provided him with a curriculum based on his individual development as a learner, and that made the difference for his successful transition to a college prep school.

Curriculum comes from Latin and means to run a course. Our curriculum encompasses not only experiences occurring in school, but experiences that are unplanned and undirected, and experiences intentionally directed for the purposeful formation of adult members of society. Our curriculum not only focuses on academics, but gives our students experiences and skills that lead them to realize they are responsible for their learning and how choices affect lives.

In 25 years Discovery School has touched many lives. The Trustees, faculty, staff, and parents have not wavered in their commitment to provide an educational environment which empowers the voice of the child. I am committed to the mission and philosophy of this school where children grow and learn everyday.
